LOCAL ATTRACTIONS

  • Visit Norfolk has a good overview to help you plan your visit.

  • See the Norfolk Coast Partnership for their overview of nature reserves.

  • If you prefer to speak to someone and get leaflets try the Tourist Information Centre in Wells-next-the-Sea (Staithe Street, NR23 1AN).

Stanhoe is in an ideal location for visiting the beaches and salt marshes of the north Norfolk coast. Holkham beach is a favourite, it has a miles of sand and dunes backed by shady pine woods, with hides for watching the geese that overwinter on the marshes. There’s also a café and visitors’ centre at the The Lookout.

Locally, you can sail at Brancaster Staithe or Burnham Overy Staithe, visit stately homes and lovely churches, explore nature reserves and relax in more than a few decent pubs and restaurants. The coast road has lots of places to buy fish and seafood straight off local boats. There's horseracing and a farmers' market at Fakenham, and Wells still has a sixties feel with fish and chips and candyfloss.

The coast attracts artists and photographers too and there are plenty of exhibitions and galleries to browse.

Or you can relax at the cottage. Stanhoe has a pub, a church and a children's playground. There are several duck ponds and we get ducks and moorhens in the garden – lovely in the spring when they bring in their young.
